MRS MARTHA LEPORE
My Story
I am happily married and have two wonderful adult children. When did I want to become a teacher? Well, I started babysitting in my neighborhood when I was 11. I was always helping the kids with their homework and doing arts and crafts. At church, I taught classes. It always seemed to be what I was supposed to do. As a senior in high school, I completed my classes by noon and then I went directly to work. I worked at a mortgage and loan company. I realized that job helped me pay for my college, but it also taught me that I didn’t want to stay in that line of work.
I went to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo to study to be a teacher. After graduation, I taught in a small town in Monterey County. Then, I taught on an Army base in Stuttgart, Germany. After coming back from Germany, I taught in private schools in Beverly Hills and Chatsworth. In 1990, I received my Master's in Education from California State University Northridge. After several years of working in private schools, I decided I wanted to come back to public schools. I was fortunate to start teaching here at Katherine Elementary School in 1998. I have never looked back. I found my home. Katherine is a wonderful community.
My philosophy is that all students have the right to learn in a safe, quiet enriched environment. I believe all people should treat each other with respect. This is what I teach my students.
