MRS JENNIFER BRODOSKI TK JK
When I think about my story and why I became a teacher, I definitely think about my favorite school psychologist, whom I met when I thought my life was over! This was when my parents told me I was about to become a big sister to my little brother. You see, I was in 6th grade and about to NO LONGER BE THE BABY of the family. My brother and I are 12 years apart and of course now I adore him, but in 6th grade it was a totally different story. How dare he come into MY LIFE! Well, that school psychologist patiently and respectfully listened to my every whim, validated my feelings and she changed my life forever. I wanted to be just like her and help children learn to understand their feelings and teach them love and compassion. She taught me the importance of respecting others and how to communicate my feelings.
My story continues with my lifelong relationship with Simi Valley Unified School District, and this relationship is still going strong. I started with SVUSD when I was in kindergarten, and only left for a short time while I went to college and got my teaching credential. I am so proud to say that I am a product of SVUSD. I attended White Oak Elementary, Valley View Middle School and Simi High School. I started as a teacher at Katherine in 2000. It is an honor to be an educator at Katherine Elementary as well as part of a tenacious unified school district.
I am a mother of two amazingly intelligent and talented daughters, who also are students of SVUSD. I am also a wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, but the title I am most passionate about is educator and leadership advisor!
As a teacher of young children, I share with parents the responsibility for teaching their child. My instruction must be differentiated to provide enough challenge and support for ALL children. We build on successes and develop positive attitudes about learning. These practices are active and engaging strategies that build motivation and enthusiasm for learning. I believe that life is all about gaining knowledge and sharing what we have learned with others. Our education is a lifelong process.
As an educator, I firmly believe I must be a leader, coach, counselor and facilitator to my students by displaying an enthusiasm for learning. Effective classroom management skills are vital and need to be consistent. I do my best each day to recognize each child as an individual with unique strengths and weaknesses.
I provide a variety of flexible and stimulating learning opportunities through social interaction, cooperative learning, hands-on experiences, and real-life applications. My lessons are setup to be formatted to include many activities that involve movement, manipulatives, sensory and discovery.
I love Katherine Elementary as a parent, teacher and active member of this neighborhood and community. Each new year I am excited to be able to serve our future leaders. I strive to provide a safe, comfortable, stimulating, fun and meaningful educational environment with a structured daily routine through a mixture of guided and undirected creative enrichment activities. All students can and will learn in my classroom.
